Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)®

The new weight management ‘Tirzepatide’ medication (brand name Mounjaro®) will be available on the NHS nationally from 23rd June. Although approximately 1000 people in Dorset meet the strict national eligibility criteria, the medication will not be available locally until later this year (expected in Autumn 2025). You can read more by following this link: https://nhsdorset.nhs.uk/health/medicines/weight/tirzepatide/

Urgent Patient Notice

Our Surgery will be switching to a new online consultation tool called SystmConnect on 30th September 2025. SystmConnect works directly with our clinical system, helping us manage your online requests more efficiently and safely. SystmConnect is easy to use and guides you through a few simple questions to help us direct your request to the right person. The Online Consultation banner will update when we move to SystmConnect. The old eConsult link will no longer work from that point.

Do you have a Blood Test Appointment?

If you have an appointment for a blood test, please ensure you stay well hydrated before your blood test. Drink plenty of water to keep your veins plumper, more visible and easier to draw blood. This applies to both fasting and non-fasting tests. Thank you

Stop and Think

Our hospitals are extremely busy. Our emergency departments are for serious or life-threatening injuries only. Our emergency departments are currently extremely busy. Please don’t turn up at A&E unless it is a serious emergency. Speak to your local pharmacist, minor injuries unit, urgent treatment centre or NHS 111 first. Help keep A&E for serious emergencies only.

About Us

Our aim is to provide a high quality, caring and personal health care service to our whole patient population by:

  • Putting our patients at the centre of what we do
  • Having a highly qualified and trained multi-professional integrated primary Healthcare Team
  • Offering our services in a safe, supportive and suitably equipped environment, using technological advances in healthcare systems for our patient’s benefit.

Help Us to help You

Practices can be busy places and staff try hard to accommodate their patients – in return you are asked to behave in a polite and considerate manner. It would be appreciated if you would help your Practice keep surgeries running smoothly and ensure that patients are seen at the right time, by:

  • When you have an appointment please attend at the time stated, and if you are not able to attend please let the Practice know in advance, so the appointment can be used by someone else who needs it.
  • If you do not attend appointments, the Practice may de-register you. This means that you would stop being a patient of the Practice and you would no longer be seen by us
  • If more than one member of your family needs to see the Doctor or other Healthcare Professional, please book one appointment per patient
  • If you have to discuss a complex medical issue please let the Receptionist know so a suitable length of appointment can be arranged
  • Please notify the Practice if you change your address, telephone or mobile phone number
  • Test results take time to reach us, so please do not contact us before you have been asked to do so
  • We ask that you treat the doctors and staff with respect and courtesy

History of the Practice

35 Hambledon Road

The surgery originated with a Dr T Fraser and the premises were at 35 Hambledon Road (see photo above). He retired in 1959 and the practice was taken over by Dr Gerald Caplin who then moved to 1246 Christchurch Road in the 1960s. Dr Margaret Darley came to the practice and they worked together with a Practice Nurse until Dr Caplin retired in December 1986.

Dr Paul Mecklenburgh joined the practice and he and Dr Darley continued to work at Christchurch Road until they developed the idea of building a new modern, purpose built practice in the new Littledown area at Harewood Crescent and moved there in April 1990. They then employed two practice nurses and more staff until Dr Darley retired in 1994. Dr Karen Lindall joined the practice and stayed for 10 years, incorporating Dr Berni Rogers when she had her maternity leave. Over a period of time we increased our work load and patients and added Dr Fabio Torquati. Dr Mecklenburgh retired in June 2010 leaving Dr Rogers and Dr Torquati as partners employing Dr Matt Murray and Dr Rebecca Carron. We have of course had a number of locum doctors at the practice over this period of time. Things have changed dramatically since the 1960s, we are computerised, have modernised nursing facilities and a lovely airy reception area but our friendly and helpful staff have always been there throughout the years.
